The Akai S3000XL - $485 plus shipping

is a 16-bit professional stereo digital sampler. The instrument has 32 polyphonic voices, and 2 MB of built-in RAM. While this may not seem like much compared to today's standards, when the S3000XL was released, it was top of the line. For adding sounds to the sampler, the S3000XL featured a 3.5" floppy drive that read Akai-formatted floppies only, and a SCSI port to link with an external storage device, such as a zip drive for storage of longer, or more samples. The built-in 2 MB of RAM could be upgraded up to 32 with (2x16) SIMM that Akai provided. Iomega Zip drives were very commonly used for storage and backup. This was especially important when you consider that the device could play back MIDI files to external MIDI devices, thus syncing samples with any number of other MIDI instruments. A great benefit was that during live performance the Akai could take the role of the computer to trigger the other instruments.
The Akai S3000XL is widely considered to be one of the most versatile and useful samplers money can buy, primarily due to the large screen, and easy-to-navigate interface allowing for quick and in-depth sampling.
The S-series samplers from Akai are most likely the best 16-bit samplers in the world. The most radical feature about these great samplers is that they are very synth-like. Aside from outstanding sampling specs such as 44.1kHz 16-bit stereo sampling with tons of RAM (8 to 32 MB) and extensive editing capability, the S-3000 series have excellent synth-like filters with resonance, 32-voice polyphony, full digital onboard effects (delay, chorus, reverb, etc.) two LFOs, and complete MIDI implementation with MTC and SMPTE. Other bonus features include digital I/O, SCSI interface, multiple storage options and a great big LCD display screen.
The S-3000XL has the same specs as the S-3000. But it comes with most of the options already installed. That includes the built-in hard-disk recording option, added filters, SCSI interface, digital I/O, additional optional effects and a SMPTE reader/generator.
This is the XL model with expanded memory, and has only ever been used in a studio. As new condition.

A great little studio rack synth, or live module for playing midifiles etc.
ROLAND U220 - $220 plus shipping

And here's one of the classic early ROMplers, the Roland U-220. The U-220 is the successor to the original Roland U-110, and it's the rack version of the U-20 synthesizer. The U-series uses a type of synthesis called RS-PCM - which stands for ReSynthesized Pulse Code Modulation, and it's Roland's 2nd generation sampling technique. It is based on high-quality samples.
The structure of this synth reminds of the D-50 and its tones, partials and patches. Here we have 128 basic components called "tones", that can be used to build "timbres". Timbres can then be combined in various ways to build "patches
Besides instrument waveforms/tones, the U-220 also features drum samples. They are fairly punchy and typically with an 80s feel. You can certainly use these percussion tones to form patches - indeed, some of the more creative factory patches use drum sounds as starting points.
This is definitely a plug 'n' play, performance synth: this module responds beautifully to velocity messages, and also the aftertouch is incredibly responsive and guarantees "felt" performances. It's also 6+1 (for rhythm) polytimbric, so you can use it to compose full songs.
The U-series can also be expanded thanks to two slots for the SN-U110-series of PCM cards, which really open up all kinds of possibilities for this machine.
ROLAND SC 55 CANVAS AND SB 55 BRUSH - $343 plus shipping

The Roland SC-55 Sound Canvas:
The Sound Canvas is great for beginners and pros alike. It is half rack size to be put in a 19” tray with the canvas. One of Rolands best kept secrets I think. The sounds are really good. The controls are easy to use and even allow you to make minor alterations to the sounds stored in the module. For instance, you can change the attack/decay of the various samples, or the resonance. There are also some effects such as reverb, chorus, pandelay, xflanger which help to enhance the sounds and give them a feeling of space and "personality". You can also add vibratro, or enable pitch bend which you then control with the MIDI keyboard controller.

MOTU MIDI TIMEPIECE AV - $410 plus shipping

MIDI Timpiece AV Overview
Combine MIDI with ADATs, ProTools™, and video. The MIDI Timepiece AV takes the world-renowned MIDI Time Piece II and adds synchronization that you really need, like video genlock, ADAT sync, and word clock sync. Even Digidesign superclock!
Slave ADATs, Digidesign hardware or word-clock compatible devices to SMTPE and video. Drive your ADATs from your sequencer without an Alesis BRC™. Or control everything from an MMC controller like JL Cooper's CuePoint™. The MTP AV pulls it all together for stable, centralized, hassle-free synchronization and MIDI networking. For Macintosh®, Windows®, and stand-alone setups.
The MTP AV is also an 8x8 merger and router. You can merge any combinations of the eight inputs simultaneously to any combination of the eight outputs. Because the MTP AV's internal memory can be programmed from the front panel, the MTP AV is the perfect choice for live performance applications where fast and flexible MIDI patching is essential. You can take the MTP AV on the road because it can operate with or without a computer. The MTP AV can be set to change scenes in response to patch changes, allowing remote control from any MIDI controller.
The MIDI Timepiece AV takes full advantage of USB, giving you increased MIDI throughput, better timing accuracy, support for "hot-swapping" and plug-and-play expansion. Need to connect another sound module or synth? No problem. Just add another MOTU USB MIDI interface via a standard USB hub.

HHB CDR 800 STEREO CD RECORDER - $478 plus shipping

The CDR800 is a three-space, rack-mounted unit with balanced XLR analog inputs, unbalanced RCA jack inputs and outputs, AES/EBU digital input and both optical and S/PDIF digital I/O's. Direct digital copying from DAT tapes or other digital sources is made a "no-brainer" by way of the Sample Rate Converter. The SRC automatically digitally converts any sample rate from 32kHz to 48kHz (+/-3%) over to the CD standard of 44.1kHz. Also making your life easier is the built-in indexer that converts DAT Start ID's to CD Track ID's. Indexing is usually done in a Digital Audio Editor ahead of time or manually "on the fly" while the CD is burning. Furthermore, digital transfers from DAT's, MD's or CD's are also blue skies by virtue of the synchro dubbing mode.
This unit has had studio use only and low hours.
Comes with manual and remote control.

SONY DTC 100 ES DAT REORDER - $220 plus shipping

This is an as new condition DTC 1000….the original DAT recorder.
There is a recent surge in DAT interest, for a very simple reason : no DRM, no copyright issues, DAT tapes remain far more reliable than any hard-drive and are sure to be readable in ten or twenty years, whereas CD-R and, even worse, DVD-R, are of the rapidly damaged kind.
It has had studio use only. Low hours.
Comes with remote control and manual.
SENNHEISER MKH 406 - $615 plus shipping

This is a classic mike from Sennheiser.
T-powered Vintage cardioid condenser microphone
The MKH series are RF condenser mics, meaning that instead of running the condenser capsule in the traditional high-impedance circuit, the MKH model uses the capsule as the tuning element of a radio-frequency oscillator. Essentially, the capsule FM-modulates an 8MHz (or thereabouts) carrier, and this signal is then demodulated to produce the required audio output. It allows the capsule to operate within a low impedance circuit which has some useful benefits -- not the least of which being far grater tolerance to the effects of humidity.
Very good condition.
Studio use only and comes in the original box.
